Just keep walking....

I'm shooting for the 30 min of exercise every day recommended by "the experts". So far I have chosen my treadmill downstairs as my M.O.

The weightlifting program I never really got started. I'll see where I am in a week or so on getting that started again.

Walking is a great way to exercise, especially if you have a partner. It's a nice, mellow aerobic exercise that helps relieve stress.

Jogging is another great exercise that stimulates the heart and helps you lose weight more quickly. A person who weighs 150 who walks for 30 minutes uses 207 calories, versus 337 calories with jogging. The first few times are not pretty, but it gets easier and you get more in return.

I found the above numbers here: http://exercise.about.com/cs/fitnesstools/l/blcalorieburn.htm.

Tip from my wife: Running on pavement is better than running on the sidewalk because of a lower material density. :)

It is true that jogging burns calories faster, but most people cannot jog the same amount of time as they would walking. Jogging can also cause pain in the knees, lower back, neck, shoulders, etc. The word around is that the goal should be to get 10,000 steps in everyday.

I would like to start swimming because it's better for the joints...but the water in the Midwest is coooold even if it's indoors, unless it's heated and then you have to pay for it :-)
